Cancellation policy
If you cancel
| When you tell us | Cancellation fee |
|---|---|
| Up to two days before your lesson | None |
| Within two days of your lesson, or no-show | 100% |
- "Two days before" means up to 23:59 on the second day before your lesson, Bali time (WITA, UTC+8). For a lesson on the 10th, that is 23:59 on the 8th.
- Bookings made inside that window are non-refundable. You'll see this on the booking form before you pay.
- Email us at [email protected] to cancel. The time we receive your message is the time we use. Please use email rather than WhatsApp — refunds are handled by our office, not by the beach team.
Even when no cancellation fee applies, refunds are issued minus the card processing fee (about 6.2% of the amount paid). Card networks keep this fee even when a payment is refunded.
If you want to move your booking
Tell us by 23:59 two days before (Bali time) and we'll move you to another date, up to 3 months from your original lesson. No processing fee is deducted when you reschedule — so if you're unsure, moving the booking costs you nothing.
If your group size changes
Each lesson is priced by the number of people, with one instructor per lesson. If your numbers change after booking, tell us by 23:59 two days before (Bali time).
- Fewer people — tell us by 23:59 two days before and we'll refund the difference down to the correct price, minus the 6.2% card processing fee.
- Told us inside the two-day window, or nobody mentions it — you pay the price you booked. Your instructor is already scheduled, so we can't refund the difference.
- More people — usually fine, subject to availability, and you pay the difference. On the day it depends on whether we have an instructor free.
If the lesson is called off
Our side
If we can't run the lesson because of instructor injury or illness, an equipment problem, or anything else on our end, you choose: reschedule, or a full refund with nothing deducted.
Weather and surf
We call off lessons when the swell, wind, or tide make it unsafe, or during storms, high surf, lightning, or a tsunami warning. You choose: reschedule, or a refund minus the 6.2% card processing fee. Rescheduling has nothing deducted.
Our instructors on Kuta Beach make the call based on conditions that morning, and we'll message you as soon as they do.
Turning up
Running late
If you're late to the meeting point we may have to shorten the lesson — we can't refund or extend the time. If we can't reach you 30 minutes after the start time, it's treated as a no-show.
When we can't take you out
For everyone's safety, we can't run a lesson with someone who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, whose health or age differs from what was booked, or who won't follow the instructor's safety directions. No refund applies in these cases.
Safety and your own insurance
Surfing carries real risk. Waves, currents, other surfers and the board itself can cause injury — including in a beginner lesson with an instructor beside you.
Before you book, please check that you
- are comfortable in shallow water — you don't need to be a strong swimmer, but tell us when you book if you're not confident
- are in reasonable health for two hours of physical activity in the sea
- will not have been drinking before the lesson
- will follow your instructor's directions, in the water and on the sand
Tell your instructor about any injury, medical condition or medication that could matter once you're in the water. If you are pregnant, or have a heart condition, epilepsy or a recent injury, email us at [email protected] before booking so we can check with the instructors first.
Travel insurance
We strongly recommend holding travel insurance that covers accidents, medical treatment and emergency transport in Indonesia, and that does not exclude surfing. Many policies treat watersports as an optional extra — it is worth checking yours before you travel.
Lessons are delivered on Kuta Beach by Harry Surf School. We do not provide medical, accident or personal liability cover for participants.
Equipment
The board is included in your lesson. Please treat the equipment with care and follow your instructor. If you rent a board separately, outside a lesson, rental terms are agreed with our team on the beach.
Photo package
The photo package is an optional add-on you choose when you book. It covers photographs only — no video.
What you get
- At least 20 photos for one person, plus 10 more for each additional person in the booking (2 people = 30, 3 = 40, and so on).
- We shoot from the beach with a telephoto lens, so the photos are of your session as it happens.
- Photos are sent to the WhatsApp number on your booking, usually within 48 hours. This is a guide, not a guaranteed deadline. If you don't use WhatsApp, reply to your confirmation email and we'll send them by email instead.
If we can't get the photos
- Weather, light, or surf conditions can make photography impossible. If that happens, we refund the photo package — the lesson itself is unaffected.
- Card processing fees (about 6.2%) are not returned, because the payment provider keeps them whether or not we refund. This is the same rule as our other refunds.
Other people in the frame
We shoot the session, so other people in your group may appear in your photos. We can't exclude them, and we don't charge them.
Using your photos
We may use photos from lessons to promote the school, for example on our website, Google profile, or Instagram. If you'd rather we didn't, tell your instructor on the day or email [email protected] and we won't.
Save them when they arrive
Please download and save your photos as soon as you receive them. We can't resend them. The photos are sent to you directly from the beach and we don't keep a copy on file.
How refunds reach you
- Refunds go back to the card you paid with. We can't refund to a bank account.
- Expect 5–10 business days for it to appear on your statement — the exact timing is up to your card issuer.
- Exchange rates move between the payment and the refund, so the amount you see returned may differ slightly from what you were charged. We can't cover that difference.
Who you're booking with
